Ardrox® 2871

Highly effective Paint Remover

Ardrox® 2871 is a peroxide-accelerated non-acid paint remover. It is designed to remove durable paint systems, such as epoxy and polyurethane, from aircraft and other surfaces. It contains no halogenated solvents, and its combination of near neutral pH and low odor makes it an excellent choice in areas where personnel are working.

Preparation

Prior to the application of Ardrox® 2871, any surface materials requiring masking should be accommodated. Consult your OEM or internal documentation for the appropriate masking procedures. Best results will be achieved at temperatures over 18 ºC / 64 °F. The paint surface should be clean and dry.

Application

Ardrox® 2871 is applied by spraying with a piston-type pump and spray wand. Use with 2:1, 3:1, 5:1 or 10:1 pumps (5:1 and 10:1 preferred). Pouring is also possible.

Apply to a thickness of 2 to 3 times the coating thickness or until the paint is uniformly covered. Do not apply too heavily, sagging could occur. Personnel should always wear suitable protective clothing.

Paint removal

In general, Ardrox® 2871 should remain on the surface for 2 to 6 hours (depending on temperature, coating thickness, type, and other conditions). If necessary to bubble the paint, Ardrox® 2871 can be left on the surface for longer periods of time.

Note: Ardrox® 2871 is designed for a single-coat application and so does not require removal and reapplication in order to expedite removal.

Elimination

Ardrox® 2871 and bubbled paint can be removed with a squeegee, brush, rinsing with water, or equivalent method. Do not allow the softened paint to dry out as it may re-adhere to the substrate.

Spot reapply the stripper to remaining painted areas if necessary and repeat the removal method. Follow up with a final rinse or wipe using water or wash with Ardrox® 6484A.

Pre-trial

Pour or spray Ardrox® 2871 on a vertical portion of the aircraft or panel. Record the coating thickness, time and temperature at application.

Effects on materials

Ardrox® 2871 is safe for aluminum, titanium, and most types of steel. Not to be used on windows or composites. Please follow the instructions as given in the appropriate specifications of the OEMs.

Shelf Life

The shelf life is 9 months from date of manufacture.

Storage

Ardrox® 2871 should be protected from freezing, preferably stored at between 10 °C (50 °F) and 35 ºC (95 °F). Store in the original container, do not use pumps with steel, brass or zinc components that can contact the product, and do not return any used or unused Ardrox® 2871 to the drum.

Safety guidance
